The 2026 minimum wage

Slovenia sets a single national minimum wage (minimalna plača) as a monthly gross amount. For work performed from January 2026 it is 1.481,88 € gross a month. It applies to full-time work and is reduced pro rata for shorter hours. The figure is adjusted each year and, for 2026, rose sharply on the previous year — a large step up rather than the usual small indexation. There is one national rate: unlike some neighbours, Slovenia has no regional or municipal variation in the minimum wage, or indeed in the wider salary system.

What the minimum wage does — and does not — include

The minimum wage is defined as the basic pay for the month, and the law (ZMinP) is specific about what sits outside it. Several common payslip items do not count towards the minimum and must be paid on top of it: overtime, the bonuses for night, Sunday and public-holiday work, the seniority supplement (dodatek za delovno dobo), and the meal and transport reimbursements. In practice that means a worker on the minimum wage should receive those extras in addition to 1.481,88 €, not folded inside it — a distinction that matters when you compare a job offer against the legal floor.

The minimum contribution base is a separate floor

The minimum wage is sometimes confused with the minimum contribution base, but they are different things. The minimum base is the lowest amount on which social-security contributions are charged, set at 60 % of the previous year’s average wage. It is a floor that mainly affects part-time or below-minimum pay: if a month’s gross falls under it, contributions can still be assessed on the higher base. For a normal full-time salary at or above the minimum wage it does not bind. Because the exact 2026 euro figure and the way any shortfall is shared with the employer have not yet been confirmed, the calculator raises a warning for a below-minimum gross rather than applying the floor automatically — we would rather flag the edge case honestly than print a number we have not confirmed.

For context: the average wage

To place the minimum in perspective, the average monthly gross wage in Slovenia is roughly 2.536,03 €, with an average net of about 1.602,05 €. These averages are context only — they are not used in the net calculation, and have not yet been confirmed against a primary statistical source. Even at the minimum wage, contributions and, above the allowances, income tax are still withheld, so the take-home is lower than the gross; the home-page calculator shows exactly how much for any gross you enter.
